Rice - 1 cup
Moong dal - 1 cup
Pepper - 10 or 15
Salt
Dry coconut powder - 2 spoons
Asafotida - pinch
For seasoning :
Ghee - 1 tablespoon
Oil - 1 tablespoon
Cashewnut - 5 full
Jeera - 1 spoon
Curry leaves
Wash rice and moong dal together and add water (1:3). Powdered pepper, coconut powder, asafotida and salt. Keep it in the pressure cooker and let 5 or 6 whistles come. Heat ghee and add zeera, curry leaves and broken cashewnuts pieces. fry them and add the seasoning to boiled rice and moong dal. Serve pongal hot with mango thokku pickle.
